Focused Counselling

When distressing situations become too difficult to manage, a more consistent connection to a counsellor may best serve the needs of a client. Our appointment-based therapy allows clients to see the same therapist on an ongoing basis. Focused counselling identifies strengths and opportunities for change, and is available for individuals, couples, and families. The fee is determined by what the client can afford to pay.

Focused counselling is goal oriented. The aim is to understand the challenges of today and for the client and therapist to develop goals that will help find a way to improve things for the future. Because the client engages with the same therapist over multiple visits, together they build a relationship that contributes toward positive outcomes and solutions.

We are offering virtual therapy as well as in-person therapy.

Direct Billing is available depending on the provider and evaluated by our admin staff when receiving your intake.

NIHB direct billing coverage is only through our Registered Psychologist, Kristy Vallentgoed.

We Offer Assessments

Psychological assessments provide a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and social functioning. These assessments go beyond surface-level concerns to identify underlying patterns, strengths, and areas of difficulty, helping to guide meaningful recommendations and next steps.

What Is a Psychological Assessment?

A psychological assessment is a structured process that may include clinical interviews, standardized testing, behavioural observations, and questionnaires completed by the individual and/or relevant others (such as parents or teachers). Information from multiple sources is integrated to form a clear, evidence-based understanding of current functioning.

Assessments are tailored to the individual’s age, referral question, and unique needs.

Reasons for Assessment

Psychological assessments can be helpful for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Learning difficulties or academic challenges
  • Attention, executive functioning, or organization concerns
  • Emotional or behavioural difficulties (e.g., anxiety, mood concerns)
  • Social, developmental, or adaptive functioning differences
  • Diagnostic clarification (e.g., ADHD, learning disorders, autism spectrum presentations)
  • Treatment planning and recommendations
  • School or workplace accommodations and supports

The Assessment Process

While each assessment is individualized, the process typically includes:

  1. Initial Consultation
A detailed intake to understand concerns, history, and goals for assessment.
  2. Assessment Sessions
Administration of standardized tests and measures selected to answer the referral questions.
  3. Collateral Information
When appropriate, input from parents, teachers, or other professionals.
  4. Integration & Interpretation
Results are carefully analyzed and interpreted within the broader context of the individual’s experiences.
  5. Feedback & Report
A comprehensive written report is provided, along with a feedback session to review results, diagnoses (if applicable), and practical recommendations.

What You’ll Receive

  • A clear, thorough written report
  • Practical, individualized recommendations
  • Diagnostic clarification when appropriate
  • Guidance for next steps, supports, or interventions
  • A collaborative feedback session where questions are welcomed

A Thoughtful, Supportive Approach

Psychological assessment is not about labeling—it’s about understanding. The goal is to provide clarity, validation, and direction in a respectful and strengths-based manner. Each assessment is conducted with care, curiosity, and attention to the whole person.
